Insertion of a gastric probe

The condition of patients fed by nasogastric tube (NG tube) often makes it difficult or impossible for them to visit a health center. Our emergency nursing in home service provides insertion, removal and replacement of the gastric probe service without patient leaving home.

The procedure involves inserting a tube into the stomach through the nose (nasogastric intubation) or mouth (orogastric intubation). The use of local anesthesia allows to minimize the discomfort associated with the procedure. Before starting the procedure, the nurse informs the patient about how to prepare for the planned procedure (e.g. to remain on an empty stomach) and about the course of the procedure. The gastric probe should be replaced every two to six weeks.
