IV drip at home

An IV drip is the intravenous administration of a fluid that may contain various medicinal and/ or nutritional compounds directly to person’s bloodstream. The drip infusion is most often used for quick rehydration of the patient- balance the water and electrolyte levels. Some medications must be given as a drip, for example, if they are not absorbed from the digestive tract. The IV treatment can also be performed for the effective administration of nutrients, vitamins or macro- and microelements (e.g. glucose, vitamin C, magnesium, amino acids). Intravenous administration of substances ensures their full availability to the tissues- without losses related to absorption from the gastrointestinal tract. At the same time, intravenous infusion reduces the risk medication related stomach inflammation.

IV infusion is sometimes used in the case of alcohol intoxication (hangover), in aesthetic medicine and cosmetology (e.g. skin and hair nourishment), by athletes during increased physical exertion. Depending on the volume of the transfused fluid, the procedure usually takes from 30 minutes to several hours. IV drip is administered with use of cannula or needle inserted directly into the patient’s vein. Drip infusions are primary used in patient treatment at the hospital, but thanks to our offer they become available to a wider group of recipients. The possibility of IV drip infusion at home reduces the patient’s stress and saves time associated with visiting the emergency room or hospital.

What kind of IV drips do we offer?

We provide many types of IV drips (with a different quantitative and qualitative composition), each time we adjust the content of the intravenous infusion to the health condition and expectations of a specific patient (any of our infusions is personalized). Intravenous infusions are given to both sick people (e.g. therapeutic drip, parenteral nutrition, etc.) and healthy people (e.g. vitamin drips, regenerative drips, for fatigue and stress, etc.).

Which IV drip to choose?

Due to the content of selected biologically active substances (e.g. medications, macro and micronutrients, vitamins), one drip is more suitable, for example, for a “healthy” athlete and another for a person suffering from malabsorption syndrome or a hangover. At the same time, there is no universal intravenous infusion that would meet the expectations of every athlete. The optimal IV drip composition for a recreational sports person will be different to an infusion for a competitive cyclist or bodybuilder. Moreover, the same competitor will prefer a different drip composition depending on the preparation phase – some compounds are more desirable when building strength and others during official weight determination or during starts. The same is true of a regenerative IV drip, optimal formulation would be different for someone “overworked” than for a patient after major surgery or a person suffering from hepatic cirrhosis. Optimal liver regeneration IV drip composition may also differ from patient to patient. For example in one individual ornithine may be appropriate, but in another glutathione and vitamin C or alpha lipoic acid could be better. In a separate clinical case, the doctor may prescribe acetylcysteine or, for example, a combination of the mentioned compounds. The precise composition of the IV drip should always be adapted to the current needs of a given individual, because the same substance that has helped one person may harm another.

Are you afraid of IV drip infusion?

Many patients are afraid of venipuncture with is necessary for cannula insertion and further IV drip connection. Below we present the technique of intravenous cannulation, which is used to for IV drip infusion. While watching the film, you can learn about the method of vein cannulation and IV infusion to overcome anxiety. The procedure is: very simple, bloodless, almost painless and rapid.

Intravenous supplementation, parenteral nutrition?

If you are considering parenteral (parenteral route of administration of the substance, e.g. intravenously) supplementation (e.g. vitamins, amino acids), first ask your doctor, nurse or pharmacist for advice. Take in to consideration that no pharmaceutical preparations can replace a balanced diet, and that their improper use can harm your health.

Intravenous preparations are usually much more effective than traditional digestive supplements, which must be absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract into the bloodstream. Therefore, for example, tablets are usually offered at a higher dose than injectable drugs. Intravenous therapy is less safe than oral therapy – preparations administered directly into the blood may have a rapid effect.

Main advantages of intravenous therapy:

  • Immediate action. The blood rapidly distributes the components of the IV drip throughout the body, allowing them to act immediately in a specific place.
  • No gastrointestinal absorption process, 100% availability of the administered dose. This is particularly important not only because absorption from the gastrointestinal duct may be slow or partial, but most importantly, some substances cannot be delivered via the alimentary route because they active form is disassembled thru digestion proses (e.g. peptides-glutathione, proteins-albumin) or the body does not have a molecular mechanism for their transport. 100% bioavailability of the applied substances does not mean that the body will use the entirety of what was administered. In the case of hydrophilic (water soluble) compounds, the excess should be filtered kidneys and seceded with urine.
  • It does not burden the digestive system.
  • High quality of the preparations used. Substances for parenteral administration are subject to extremely strict quality control at many stages of production. This category of products cannot afford any inaccuracies in terms of composition (e.g. presence of impurities) or dose.

Mobile IV therapy

By choosing a mobile nurse service and a IV drip at home, you get not only everything that the stationary service has to offer, but you do not expose yourself to contact with pathogens transmitted by sick visitors to the outpatient clinic. In addition, you are guaranteed full discretion and the staff’s full attention to yourself. You also save time and provide yourself with maximum comfort.
